Sonatas-Dances by Domenico Scarlatti Barcelona, 25 th -29 th June 2012 This workshop focus on the performance of the sonatas-dances by Domenico Scarlatti and the eighteenth century Spanish keyboard music school. The methodological identification of these dances help us to understand its internal structure, gestural punctuation as well as other important issues -including tempo and accent- thus, giving a physical and choreographic dimension to its performance. A NEWLY DISCOVERED EIGHTEENTH CENTURY SPANISH HARPSICHORD John Koster, NMM Conservator and Professor of Music, made the first public presentation at the 10th International Symposium on Spanish Keyboard Music “Diego Fernández FIMTE 2010 of a recent discovery made during a research trip to Washington, D.C. There, in a storage facility of the Smithsonian Institution, he identified a harpsichord that had been cataloged as a nineteenth century fake as actually the sole known exemplar of an important type of mid-eighteenth- century Spanish instrument. The C@BEZÓN500 COLLECTION The C@BEZÓN500 Collection was organised by FIMTE in 2010 to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the birth of the famous blind Spanish musician Antonio de Cabezón (1510-2010). This is the result of a joint effort by professional musicians, record labels, music students and amateur musicians who came together to make all of Cabezón's works available online over the course of this fifth centennial year. The Cabezón Organ Project: an Organ for Castrillo de MatajudíosOMEN IN MUSIC: SPAIN AND LATIN AMERICA FollowingOctober 2010 excursion to Cabezón's home-town, Castrillo de Matajudíos in the province of Burgos, FIMTE is now involved in the project of building a sixteenth century Spanish organ for Cabezón's town.
