Musical Explorations, Melbourne

The rhythmic vitality of dance is a hallmark of Spanish instrumental music. From the 18th century Domenico Scarlatti evoked the sounds of the guitar and folk dance forms at the keyboard, while emotionally charged flamenco traditions had a similar impact on the music of Manuel de Falla in the early 20th century. These and other vibrant sounds of Spain are explored and brought to life on harpsichord and piano. These talks explore the past, present and future of music and the techniques and ideas that shape it. Speakers: Michael Christoforidis, Luisa Morales, Zen Zeng (Melbourne Recital Hall, Musical Explorations, October 2013)

AMIS Newsletter

It was sad to say goodbye to Spain and to old and new friends, but many of us are already planning ahead for next year's FIMTE Festival and Symposium. Once again Luisa Morales, director and founder of FIMTE, has shown why FIMTE is rapidly becoming the most well-known and important organization for the study pf Spanish keyboard instruments and music. In this 250th anniversary year of Scarlatti's death, we can expect that Morales and FIMTE will offer yet more opportunities to study and enjoy the rich heritage of Spanish keyboard music. (Susanne Skyrm, AMIS Newsletter, Fall 2006)

The Highlander, Los Angeles

Luisa Morales has made a name for herself internationally as a keyboardist (and founder of FIMTE). After (they) impressive display I must admit that they were not only musicians and performers but they were frist and foremost educators. Even enveloped in the melody and dance, I couldnt shake the feeling of the deeper significance in the music and its history. (The Highlander, Riverside, California, January 2013)

(Cristina Bordas, Musique-Images-Instruments, CNRS, 2007)

Mundoclasico

Several concerts added luster to the festival this year, including a memorable appearance by Luisa Morales playing eighteenth-century harpsichord music, especially Soler and Scarlatti, to accompany the enchanting dancing and castanet playing of Cristóbal Salvador, thus demonstrating the eighteenth-century origins of Spanish nationalism in music...This festival provided further evidence that FIMTE is among the most important annual celebrations of Spanish music. What does the tenth festival hold in store?...One thing is certain: it will be worth attending . (Walter A. Clark, Mundoclasico, January 2008)

ABC Blanco y Negro
